Patriots Host Longwood Tuesday in EBA

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team welcomes Longwood to EagleBank Arena for a midweek matchup on Tuesday (Dec. 1). Tip-off in Fairfax is scheduled for 6 p.m.
 
Tuesday's game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN+, with commentary by Steve Kolbe. In addition, Brian McSweeney will call the game on GoMason Digital Network, with pregame coverage beginning at 5:50 p.m.
 
PATRIOT POINTS
* Mason used a late fourth quarter run to rally past Navy for its first win of the season on Sunday inside EagleBank Arena. The Patriots are +26 in the fourth quarter (57-31) this season.
 
* Sophomore Jazmyn Doster sparked the Patriots' offense with a career-high 22 points (10-20 FG) while adding eight rebounds and a career-high four blocks. Doster ranks second in the A-10 in blocked shots per game (2.0).
 
* Graduate student Daijah Jefferson recorded her first career double-double vs. Navy (12pts/11rebs). 
 
* Five Patriots finished in double figures for the first time since Feb. 21, 2019 – Doster (22), Jefferson (12), Jameson (11), Korpinen (10) and Wakefield (10).
 
* Freshman Taylor Jameson had a breakout performance vs. the Mids, tallying 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals to land a spot on the A-10 weekly honor roll.
 
* Mason held a +14 advantage on the glass (56-42). It marked the most rebounds by a Patriot squad since a win over LIU Brooklyn on Dec. 7, 2017.
 
* Jefferson is averaging 14.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game, good enough to earn a spot on the A-10 weekly honor roll. She ranks 10th in the A-10 in scoring and fifth in rebounding.
 
* Korpinen recorded her 19th double-digit scoring performance with a 10-point outing vs. Navy. She's currently 20th in the league in scoring (10.0).
 
* After ranking 12th in the A-10 in free throw percentage a year ago (.665), Mason currently boasts a free throw percentage of .746 – good for fourth in the league.
 
* The Patriots continue to be efficient on the boards, ranking first in the A-10 and sixth nationally in offensive rebounds per game (23.0). Mason also ranks first in the A-10 in total rebounds per game (49.5).
 
* Mason improved to 6-2 in home openers under the helm of Coach Milleson. Since 2013-14, Mason is 61-42 inside EagleBank Arena. Overall, Mason boast a 229-174 record at home.
 
* Mason is 30-21 all-time against Big South opponents. This will be the first matchup with a Big South opponent since Dec. 28, 2017 when the Patriots defeated Longwood, 60-41.
 
* With a 72-68 win vs. Navy, head coach Nyla Milleson is now four wins away from 100 victories at Mason.
 
JEFFERSON, JAMESON HONORED
A pair of Patriots earned a spot on the Atlantic 10's first weekly honor roll of the season (Nov. 25-29). Jefferson averaged 14.5 points and 8.0 rebounds with three steals and three assists in a 1-1 week for the Patriots. Jameson, a freshman from Wichita, Kan., tallied 7.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and five total assists in the two games.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Mason leads the all-time series 12-2 and is a perfect 8-0 at home vs. the Lancers. Mason has won the last five meetings, including its most recent matchup coming on Dec. 28, 2017 inside EagleBank Arena, resulting in a 60-41 win for the Patriots. That win extended Mason's home winning streak to 10 games for its then-longest in program history. 
 
SCOUTING LONGWOOD
Longwood (0-2) returns nine letterwinners from the 2019-20 campaign, including reigning Big South Freshman of the Year and All-Big South First Team member Kyla McMakin, who was also selected to the Preseason All-Big South First Team this fall, and All Big South Freshman team guard Anne-Hamilton Leroy.
 
Junior Akila Smith was named Big South Player of the Week after averaging 15.5 points and 11.5 rebounds, notching her third and fourth career double-doubles. Smith's strong start to the season comes on the heels of a 2019-20 campaign where she set the Longwood single-season record with a conference best 74 blocks, along with seven double-digit rebounding performances.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Mason overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to rally past Navy on Sunday afternoon inside EagleBank Arena. After trailing 51-41 with 8:22 remaining in the game, Mason used a late 10-2 run to reclaim the lead and earn its first win of the season (72-68).
 
Sophomore Jazmyn Doster finished with a career-high 22 points, the first 20-spot of her career. She also chipped in eight rebounds and four blocks in a career-high 31 minutes of play.
 
Jefferson (12), Jameson (11), Korpinen (10) and Wakefield (10) also recorded double-digit scoring performances.
 
UP NEXT
Mason travels to CAA preseason favorite JMU on Sunday (Dec. 6). Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
