Patriots Open A-10 Road Slate Wednesday at Dayton

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team opens the road portion of its A-10 slate on Wednesday at Dayton.

Tip-off between the Patriots and Flyers is scheduled for 7 p.m. at UD Arena. Wednesday's game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN+, with commentary by Alex Mikos.
 
PATRIOT POINTS
* The Patriots started Atlantic 10 play with a 70-60 win over Revolutionary Rival George Washington on Saturday inside EBA. Mason went on a 20-0 run to outscore the Colonials 24-11 in the third quarter. 
 
* Freshman Tamia Lawhorne scored 15 of her career-high 22 points in the third quarter, shooting 5-of-8 from the field and 3-of-3 from deep in the period. 
 
* The Patriots shot 46.6 percent (27-58) from the field and 42.9 percent (9-21) from behind the arc vs. GW. Mason improves to 6-0 when shooting 40.0 percent or better in a contest.
 
* Junior Nicole Cardaño-Hillary added 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists while senior Jacy Bolton chipped in a game-high 10 rebounds.
 
* With 32 steals this season, Cardaño-Hillary moved into seventh place in Mason's all-time career steals list (181).
 
* Bolton became the 20th player in program history to score 1,000 points in their career after scoring eight points at SMU (Dec. 31). 
 
* Cardaño-Hillary was named College Sports Madness' A-10 Player of the Week after averaging 21.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game in a 2-0 week for the Patriots. She scored a game-high 25 points to go along with eight rebounds and five assists at SMU.
 
* Cardaño-Hillary leads the Atlantic 10 in scoring (17.9 ppg). Junior Camarie Gatling is second in the A-10 in field goal percentage (.535). 
 
* Bolton is averaging a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game, and is second on the team, averaging 10.6 points per game.
 
* Bolton surpassed 600 career rebounds with six boards against Bradley (Nov. 29). She now sits 10th all-time with 651 rebounds. Bolton is seven boards away from 9th place (658) held by Vernessa Neamo (2000-04).
 
* Cardaño-Hillary began the season 14th all-time in Mason program history in scoring with 1,218 points. She moved into sole possession of seventh place with 18 points vs. GW (1,469), passing Jen Surlas (1997-01).
 
* Last season, Mason defeated Dayton 54-51 after Cardaño-Hillary hit a three-pointer at the buzzer. The Patriots will look for their first road win over the Flyers in program history.
 
* The Patriots boast a 5-1 record when scoring 70+ points in a contest. 
 
* Mason ranks first in the A-10, and 28th in the NCAA, in offensive rebounds (15.3).
 
SERIES HISTORY
Dayton leads the all-time series, 6-2. Mason won the matchup last season, breaking the Flyers two-game winning streak against the Patriots. Mason will look for its first road win over the Flyers in program history.
 
SCOUTING DAYTON
Dayton defeated La Salle 98-58 in its Atlantic 10 opener on Saturday in Philadelphia. Five players scored in double digits and the Flyers scored 31 points in two of the four quarters. Dayton improved to 8-7 overall, 1-0 in the A-10 and is on a three-game winning streak.
 
Dayton is led by redshirt junior Erin Whalen, who is scoring 14.1 points per game and grabbing 4.8 rebounds each outing. Senior Jayla Scaife is contributing 11.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest.
 
The Flyers rank 37th in the country in rebounds and are in the top 50 in three-point field goals made and free throws made. Individually, Shakeela Fowler ranks 66th in free throw percentage while Erin Whalen is 56th in three pointers.
