FAIRFAX, Va. - The 12th ranked George Mason men's volleyball team (4-3, 0-0) defeats Loyola-Chicago (3-6, 0-0) in straight sets (25-15, 25-20, 25-19) on Friday night inside the RAC.
"Really happy with the way our boys executed the gameplay tonight," head coach Jay Hosack said. "More importantly, we played phenomenal block and defense tonight and I thought our transition game stepped up a couple of notches. We were struggling with that early in the year and we worked on it really hard throughout the week and we are starting to see some fruits of our labor."
Redshirt junior Jack Reese totaled a match high four blocks, coupled with seven kills for a match high in attacking percentage (.778). Fellow redshirt junior Bradley Creamer led the Patriots in kills on the night with 12, including a service ace and three blocks.
Mason got off to a blazing start, going up as much as 12-2 in the first set, and never looked back as they did not trail in the opening set. Mason continued to apply pressure throughout the game. The largest deficit the Patriots found themselves in was by one point in the contest.
"Hats off to Loyola, they are a good program, they are going to go far" Hosack said. "But we got the better of them tonight and feel great about our performance. We have to forget it quickly because we have a tough team in Lewis to face tomorrow and we have to be ready to go."
