Full Kier Nomination | Senior CLASS Announcement
FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University senior guard
Justin Kier has been named one of 30 Division I men's basketball candidates for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award.
Kier is a candidate because of his fellowship in the greater Fairfax community, his internship work through his sport management major, the resiliency showcased during his life and his superior performance on the court.
"I can't think of anyone more deserving of this award than Justin," head coach
Dave Paulsen said. "He just oozes character and is as good a leader and teammate as I've ever been around in my 26 years as a head coach. He embodies the notion of servant leadership. He's inspired his teammates on the court and wil continue to inspire them as he battles back from this injury. He's been so good in the community – the students on campus, kids and our older fans just gravitate to him. He has an innate sense of how to connect with people and is sensitive to others who are less fortunate. We couldn't be prouder to have Justin as an ambassador for our program."
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
A total of 30 men's basketball and 30 women's basketball candidates have been selected. The men's and women's candidates will be narrowed to two fields of 10 finalists in February, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four C's of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2020 NCAA Men's Final Four® and NCAA Women's Final Four® this spring.
