Patriots Drop Road Match at Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The George Mason men's soccer team dropped its third straight match, falling at Campbell, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Eakes Athletics Complex in Buies Creek, N.C.    

The Camels (2-1-1) limited the Patriots (1-3-0) to one shot on goal in each half.

Campbell senior forward Aigbekan Nosegbe scored in the 29th minute to put the Camels in front 1-0. 

The Patriots have surrendered the first goal in all four of their matches this season.

The Camels extended the advantage when sophomore midfielder Eren Elbustu tallied in the 38th minute, sending a free kick over the wall to make it a 2-0 game.  Elbustu scored his second goal of the match in the 56th minute for the 3-0 final score.

Mason freshman goalkeeper Tillman Theurich (1-3-0) made five saves, while Campbell junior Sam Lechuga (2-1-1) made two saves in the game.

HOW THEY SCORED

29' | Nosegbe dribbled around a defender and scored into the center of the net.

38' | Elbustu scored on a free kick inside the right post from just outside the 18 yard box.

56' | Elbustu found room on the left side and tallied his second goal of the match.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

The Camels outshot the Patriots 19-4, including an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal.  Campbell had six corner kicks, while Mason had three corner kicks in the match.

Mason senior midfielders Ryan Mingachos and Daniel Damiani each recorded one shot on goal.

The two teams combined for 26 fouls in the match (Campbell 15, Mason 11).

UP NEXT

The Patriots return home to host Liberty on Saturday, Sept. 14 at George Mason Stadium.  The opening kick is scheduled for 7 p.m.
