Patriots Fall at Home to UMass

FAIRFAX, Va. –
Despite a halftime lead, the George Mason women's soccer team (2-6-1, 0-2 A-10) could not defeat UMass (4-3-2, 1-1 A-10), falling by a score of 4-2.
 
The Patriots jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when junior forward Jisca Adigo earned a takeaway and played a ball down the left side of the field, ultimately scoring from a very difficult angle in the 33rd minute.
 
The Minutewomen responded with three unanswered goals, including the first two scores in a span of 55 seconds. Leading scorer Melissa Kössler earned two goals in the contest, along with an assist on the final goal of the match, earning five points.
 
Adigo earned her second goal of the night in the 79th minute. The goal is the third of the season for the forward, as she is now the leading scorer for the Patriots (9 points). This was the first time in her collegiate career where she notched multiple goals in one game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
 
The Minutewomen earned possession of the ball for 62 percent of the game, accumulating eight corner kicks, 12 shots (eight on goal) and four goals on five shots in the second half.
 
For Mason, Adigo proved to be the Patriots' main source of offense, as the junior earned three of Mason's seven shots, including two goals. This is the first game of her career where she recorded multiple goals. The Patriots were held to zero corner kicks in the first half, but earned two in the second half.
 
Three yellow cards were issued throughout the contest, two to Mason and one to UMass.
