Game Recap: Women's Soccer |
DAYTON, Ohio - The George Mason women's soccer team (2-5-1, 0-1 A-10) earned 10 shots (three on goal) in their Atlantic 10 season opener, but fell to Dayton (3-5-1, 1-0 A-10) by a score of 2-0 at Baujan Field.

The Patriots' offensive attack, led by defender Olivia Reese who notched five shots, put pressure on the Flyers early, earning six shots in the first half. Mason finished the game with a 10-9 advantage in shots, but could not put one in the back of the net. In the 39th minute, forward Emily Bradshaw fired a free kick chance that nearly grazed the right post. That chance proved to be the Patriots' best scoring chance of the night.

Early in the first half, senior forward Micayla Livingston earned her first goal of the season, giving the Flyers an early one-goal advantage. Scoring chances came and went throughout the rest of the first half, leaving the score at 1-0. Another early goal in half number two gave Dayton a two-goal lead when leading scorer Alexis Goins netted her fourth goal of the season.

The Patriots earned more chances throughout the final half, but could not get one past the Flyers' goalkeeper, falling 2-0.

"We are not disappointed in our team's performance tonight," head coach Todd Bramble said. "Our offense performed well, but we are just disappointed in the way we conceded the two goals tonight. As a staff, we know that our team's resiliency is really being tested right now, but we believe we have the talent on this team. We are ready and excited to come back home next week and face two top programs in the Atlantic 10, starting with Massachusetts on Thursday and VCU on Sunday."
