FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team surrendered a pair of goals in the second half and fell to Liberty, 3-1, on Saturday night at George Mason Stadium.

Liberty (2-3-0) took the lead over Mason (1-4-0) when sophomore forward Tyler Welch scored his first goal of the season in the 35th minute to put the Flames in front 1-0.

Mason senior midfielder Ryan Mingachos scored his second goal of the season, netting the equalizer in the final two minutes of the half when he converted a rebound chance off a corner kick to make it a 1-1 game.  Senior midfielder Grant Robinson and senior forward Tunde Akinlosotu picked up the assists.

Early in the second half, Liberty junior forward Musa Morris scored from 40 yards out in the 50th minute to give the Flames a 2-1 advantage.  Freshman midfielder Seth Clark collected the first of two assists on the night.

Liberty senior forward Carter Burris added an insurance goal in the 88th minute, with Clark assisting, for the 3-1 final.

Mason freshman goalkeeper Tillman Theurich made two saves, while Liberty freshman goalkeeper Danny Cordero also made two saves in the match.

HOW THEY SCORED

35' | Welch scored into the lower corner from 18 yards out.

43' | Mingachos scored his second goal of the season from inside the six off a corner kick.

50' | Morris scored his first goal of the season into the upper left corner for 40 yards out.

88' | Burris tallied his first goal of the season from 15 yards out.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

The Flames outshot the Patriots 12-6, including a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal.  Mason had six corner kicks, while Liberty had five corner kicks in the match.

UP NEXT

The Patriots are back on the road when they visit Drexel on Tuesday, Sept. 17 with the opening kick scheduled for 6 p.m. at Vidas Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
