HARRISONBURG, Va. - Despite two leads, the George Mason women's soccer team (1-4-1) dropped their road battle against James Madison (2-5-0) on Thursday at Sentara Park.
"We are extremely disappointed, leaving here tonight with this result," head coach Todd Bramble said. "To have had the lead twice, on the road, and conceded the goals like we did is extremely disappointing. I know the players are frustrated, the coaches are frustrated. We need to do a better job, as a staff, trying to help the players figure out how to get points in these games where we are even, if not better, with our opposition. We are going to get back to work tomorrow and look forward to hosting Towson on Sunday."
The Patriots earned six shots (three on target) to James Madison's nine (four on target). Junior Kayla Hamric earned three points on the night. The first two came in the 31st minute, when the forward attempted a brilliant, bending corner kick that ultimately found the back of the net to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.
Her third point came in the 56th minute when sophomore Kolbrún Eyjólfsdóttir corralled Hamric's corner kick shot attempt and finished the play with a rebound goal. The score was Eyjólfsdóttir's third of the season and gave the Green and Gold a 2-1 advantage.
Despite the lead, the Dukes responded with two goals in the 57th and 67th minute to take the lead and ultimately win the match.
