Brenna Connell ('16) to Compete in UEFA Champions League

FAIRFAX, Va. – Former George Mason women's soccer student-athlete Brenna Connell will be competing in the UEFA Champions League this month.

The midfielder and her club, ASA Tel Aviv, secured entry to the championship tournament after winning both the Israeli league and Domestic Cup titles in May. Connell's squad joins a group with Breidablik (Iceland), SFK Sarajevo (Bosnia) and ZFK Dragon (Macedonia), who are all competing for a chance to advance to the next round of tournament play. A record 62 teams from 50 associations entered the 2019-20 UEFA Women's Champions League and 40 of them are involved in the qualifying round, which ends Tuesday, August 13.

ASA Tel Aviv's first match resulted in a loss 1-4 loss against Breidablik (Iceland) on Wednesday, August 7. The team then competed well against Sarajevo (Bosnia) on Saturday, August 10. Connell has received ample playing time, subbing in for her veteran teammate Shirli Ohana in the 62 minute of the Breidablik match, along with subbing in the 83 minute against Sarajevo. The team will compete against ZFK Dragon (Macedonia) in their third and final qualifying round match Tuesday.

The Olney, Md. native played four seasons with the Patriots (2013-16), where she recorded eight collegiate points (one goal and seven assists), 60 matches played (13 starts), 2065 minutes logged and earned Spring 2014 Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll during her career in the Green and Gold.
