FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team opened the 2019 season with a 2-1 victory over American on Friday night at George Mason Stadium.

The Patriots (1-0-0) responded with the equalizer just seven minutes later.

After a handball was called against the Eagles in the box, Mason senior Ryan Mingachos converted on the penalty kick, scoring into the lower right corner to tie the match, 1-1.

Mason senior Tunde Akinlosotu continued the momentum for the Patriots, putting Mason in front to stay in the 32nd minute when he collected a rebound and scored into the left corner to make it a 2-1 game.  Senior midfielder Sukrija Dudic picked up the lone assist on the goal.
