FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason women's soccer team fell short in their home opener against Kentucky on Thursday at George Mason Stadium.
Freshman Hannah Richardson gave the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead in the 10th minute, for the forward's first collegiate goal.

Kayla Hamric answered for the Patriots scoring right in front of the net with a great chance served up by graduate student
Gabriela Rivera, evening the score at one apiece.
The two teams continued to earn chances against one another, as the Wildcats scored in the 31st minute and the Patriots scored in the 32nd minute. Sophomore Kolbrun Eyjólfsdóttir earned her first goal as a Patriot, using her head to score a corner kick delivered by Hamric, who earned her third point of the night on the assist. The score remained a 2-2 stalemate heading into the break.
Kentucky came out in the second half aggressive, as freshman Jordyn Rhodes put one in the back of the net in the 47th minute of play. The Patriots could not answer as the Wildcats added a fourth and final goal in the contest, downing the Patriots by a score of 4-2.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Patriots recorded 15 total shots, while the Wildcats had nine. Kentucky earned four saves to Mason's three, along with committing three fouls to the Patriots' nine. Mason also ended with an 11-3 edge in corner kicks on the night. Hamric earned three points in the contest, making her the leading scorer for the Patriots.
