FAIRFAX, Va. – In the first exhibition match of the season, the George Mason men's soccer team fell to James Madison, 3-0, on Sunday at George Mason Stadium.
James Madison sophomore midfielder Tyler Clegg put the Dukes in front 1-0 in the 36
th minute of play, netting the eventual game-winning goal from inside the six.
The Dukes increased the lead in the 40
th minute when senior midfielder Manuel Ferriol found the back of the net to make the score 2-0.
James Madison tallied the lone goal of the second half when freshman midfielder Clay Obara made it a 3-0 game with his first goal in exhibition play.
HOW THEY SCORED
36' | Clegg took a pass from senior forward Lewis Long and scored into the lower right corner of the net for the first goal of the game.
40' | Clegg sent a pass ahead to Ferriol, who finished the play from 10 yards out.
69' | Obara found some space behind the defense and scored into the lower right corner from 15 yards out.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
James Madison finished the game with a 10-3 edge in shots, including a 7-0 advantage in shots on goal. The Patriots had four corner kicks, while the Dukes didn't have a corner kick in the match.
