FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team plays the first of its two exhibition games, hosting James Madison on Sunday with the kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. at George Mason Stadium.

The Patriots add nine newcomers to the team for the 2019 season, including five transfers and four freshmen.

The group features
Sukrija Dudic, who scored 19 goals and 42 points in two years with Richard Bland College and recorded a team-high four goals in 17 matches with the University of New Haven.

The Patriots return 20 letterwinners and five of their top-six scorers from last year's team that advanced to the Atlantic 10 Championship game.

Seniors
Tunde Akinlosotu and
Grant Robinson tied for the team lead in goals (5) during the 2018 season, while Akinlosotu's 15 points led the club. Senior
Ryan Mingachos tied for second on the team in goals (4), assists (4) and points (12).

The Patriots finished the 2018 campaign with a 9-8-0 overall record and posted a 5-3-0 mark against A-10 opponents, tying for third place in the conference during the regular season. Mason was 6-3-0 at home, 2-4-0 on the road and 1-1 in games played at a neutral site.

In the A-10 quarterfinals, the Patriots defeated Saint Louis in double-overtime, 1-0. In the semifinals at the Billiken Sports Center, Mason defeated Dayton, 1-0, in double-overtime to advance to the championship game for the first time since the 2013 season.

The Patriots play their final exhibition game at William & Mary on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. Mason opens the regular season against American on Friday, August 30 at George Mason Stadium with the kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.

SCOUTING JAMES MADISON

The Dukes finished the 2018 season with a 15-5-3 overall record, including a mark of 6-2-0 against CAA opponents. James Madison went 9-2-1 at home and 6-3-2 on the road last season.

The Dukes won both the 2018 CAA regular-season and tournament title.Â

James Madison advanced to the quarterfinals in the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. The Dukes defeated High Point 3-0, No. 5 North Carolina 2-1 and No. 12 Virginia Tech 3-0 before falling to Michigan State 2-1 in the quarterfinals.

The Dukes return three players who earned United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region honors last year. Midfielder Manuel Ferriol led the team in goals (9) assists (5) and points (23)

Goalkeeper T.J. Bush started all 23 games and finished the season with a 15-5-3 record. He recorded 13 shutouts. Bush ranked tied for second in the nation in shutouts (13), was third in the country in minutes played (2162) and fifth in goals against average (0.54)

The Patriots and Dukes were rivals in the Colonial Athletic Association for 35 years before Mason joined the Atlantic 10 in 2013.

Six of the last seven meetings between the Patriots and Dukes have been decided by one goal or less. Mason last faced James Madison during the 2012 season, with the Dukes recording a 2-1 victory at George Mason Stadium.Â

Wesley Sever tallied Mason's lone goal of the match 34 seconds into the second half to put the Patriots in front 1-0 before the Dukes scored the final two goals of the game.
