AUSTIN, Texas - George Mason University women's track & field senior
Sarah Moore capped an extraordinary career in fitting fashion Thursday, racing to a personal-best NCAA Championship finish at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Moore ran 53.60 in her 400-meter heat to place 19th overall at the event. It's her top finish by place at this her second-consecutive season at the national meet.
The race concludes a career for the ages for Moore in a Mason uniform. A sprints stalwart who was part of two A-10 outdoor championship teams, Moore hit double digits in individual A-10 crowns while representing Mason with excellence at both the NCAA preliminary and championship levels.
"Sarah certainly has crafted a legacy that will last well beyond her time here," head coach
Andrew Gerard said. "A two-time national qualifier, a 13-time A-10 champion, conference record holder and a fixture on our all-time lists, her name will be around for a long time. But the impact on our teams in terms of her attitude, competitiveness and work ethic is what, I think, will stick with her teammates and coaches as her true legacy in this program."
In her senior season alone, Moore won five A-10 titles, including outdoor victories in the 400m dash, 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay. She entered the NCAA preliminary in Jacksonville seeded 14th, made it through the first round, then advanced to Austin by running 52.74 in the quarterfinals in Florida.
Moore graduated from George Mason in May with a degree in sport management and was named the athletic department's Female Athlete of the Year during last month's Green & Gold Celebration.
