FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason's Emily Littell has been chosen as a recipient of an Atlantic 10 Conference Postgraduate Scholarship.

Littell, a senior midfielder on the women's soccer team, was one of 14 graduating student-athletes in the Atlantic 10 Conference to receive the postgraduate scholarship. All 14 A-10 institutions had a student-athlete receive the $5,000 postgraduate scholarship, which will contribute toward full-time enrollment in a graduate or professional program.

Designed to provide graduating student-athletes the opportunity to continue their college education, the program awards $70,000 in scholarship funding to former A-10 student-athletes. This marks the fifth straight year the Atlantic 10 has provided the scholarship to 14 individuals.

A native of Leesburg, Va, Littell graduated last week from George Mason with a bachelor's degree in Bioengineering. She was selected Google Cloud Academic All-America® each of the last two years.  In 2017, she became the first Mason women's soccer player in program history to earn the honor.

She is a three-time Provost Scholar Athlete and a four-year member of the Dean's List. She also has been named to the A-10 All-Academic Team for women's soccer three times and has been named to the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll each year.

On the field, Littell earned A-10 Conference Second-Team honors in 2018, helping lead the Patriots to an 8-2-0 mark in Atlantic 10 play. Team captain for two years, started all 81 games during her four-year career, fourth-most in program history. She recorded 11 goals and added 18 assists for 38 points during her Mason career and her 18 assists are tied for the eighth-most in program history. She was also selected Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) First Team All-State Midfielder.

In the community, she served food and taught soccer with students at the team's adopted school, Braddock Elementary in Annandale.

The selection process, which involves the league's athletic directors, senior woman administrators and faculty athletic representatives, resulted in a class with an average GPA of 3.74.

The Postgraduate Scholarship Program is part of the conference's broad-based commitment to student-athlete opportunities and academics. The conference consistently ranks at the top among all Division I Conferences in both Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and the Academic Progress Rate (APR) data released by the NCAA.
