Buzoianu Earns Win No. 100 to Lead Mason in Win vs. CNU

FAIRFAX, Va. –
George Mason University graduate student Giuliano Buzoianu claimed his 100th career victory in fitting fashion on Senior Day, leading the Green & Gold to a 6-1 victory over Christopher Newport at the Mason Tennis Complex.
 
Buzoianu dispatched of his opponent quickly at No. 5 singles. He swept the first set (6-0), then looked equally impressive in a 6-1, second-set triumph. He was one of three seniors honored in a pre-match ceremony. Pally Ray and Amir Alkhafaji also were recognized for their contributions to the program.
 
"The guys battled hard today on Senior Day and came out with a good win against a tough opponent," head coach Jimmy Davis said. "A big thank you to Giuliano, Pally and Amir for all they've done for this program. They are leaving behind a strong reflection of leadership for our young guys to continue building and improving this program. We have high hopes for the remainder of our season so we can show them off in a deserving way. We're excited to get back to practice this week and improve."
 
The victory Sunday marked the third-straight for Mason. It began in doubles, where the Patriots won at No. 1 and No. 2. Ray and sophomore Ryan Charles dispatched of CNU's Macy/Mason combo at the top spot, 6-1. Then, juniors Edward Ayers and Jakob Nielsen took down the Ruzicka/Trang combo, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point at No. 2.
 
Ayers also racked up a victory at the top singles position, taking down Dominic Lacombe in straight sets (6-4, 6-3). Ayers has won three-straight singles matches heading into an important weekend for the Patriots.
 
Ray got it done at No. 2, defeating Andy Mason 7-6, 6-3. At No. 3, Nielsen added to the Patriot win total with a complete effort against Ryan Macy (6-0, 6-2). The victory also marked Nielsen's third-straight and the eighth in the last nine matches for the Canadian.
 
At No. 6, freshman Chanasorn Nakaurai also tallied a victory for Mason, taking down Mason Kills in three sets (6-3, 5-7, 6-2).
 
Mason will now wrap up the regular season with four-straight A-10 matches. The first will be in Philadelphia vs. La Salle. First serve on Friday (April 12) is scheduled for 2 p.m.
