KINGSTON, R.I. – George Mason junior starter
Jared DiCesare recorded his third career complete-game, while junior right fielder
Bailey Klein drove in the go-ahead runs in a 3-1 victory over Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon at Bill Beck Field in Kingston, R.I.

The game started out as a pitchers' duel, with DiCesare allowing just three singles through the first four innings for Mason (17-25, 4-10 A-10), while Rhode Island (17-22, 8-6 A-10) senior starter Tyler Wilson held the Patriots without a hit over the first three innings before the Rams went to the bullpen.

Rams junior reliever Nick Robinson retired the first five batters he faced after entering the game before the Patriots took the lead in the top of the fifth.

With two outs, Mason senior third baseman
Greg Popatak II ripped a double to right field and freshman designated hitter
Jack Fitzgerald followed with a run-scoring double down the third base line to put the Patriots in front 1-0.

Sophomore second baseman
Daniel Brooks kept the inning going with a walk and senior shortstop
Alejandro Aponte singled to load the bases. Robinson got Mason sophomore outfielder
Cam Reckling to fly out to left to end the inning.

Mason has scored the first run of the game in each of the last three contests.

Rhode Island sophomore right fielder Jackson Coutts hit a solo home run on the first pitch in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game, 1-1.

In the top of the eighth the Patriots scored a pair of unearned runs.

Aponte reached on a fielding error and Reckling singled before the Rams summoned junior Tyler Brosius from the bullpen. Mason junior catcher

Klein then delivered a two-run single to give the Patriots a 3-1 lead. He has 24 RBI on the season, tied for second-most on the club.

The Patriots have won each of the first two games of the series against the Rams 3-1. Mason pitchers have allowed just two runs on eight hits over the first two games.

DiCesare (3-5) allowed one run on five hits with six strikeouts and one walk in the complete-game victory. He threw 115 pitches in the game, 78 for strikes.

It's Mason's first complete-game of the season and the third for DiCesare in his career.

Wilson didn't allow a hit and struck out three over 3.0 innings in a no-decision for the Rams. Robinson (1-6) surrendered three runs, one earned, on four hits in 4.0 innings and took the loss. Brosius gave up one hit in 2.0 innings for Rhode Island.Â

Klein went 1-for-4 with two RBI, while Fitzgerald finished 1-for-4 and drove in his fifth run of the season.
