FAIRFAX, Va. – After transformative regular seasons for both programs, the George Mason University men's and women's tennis programs will look to carry that momentum forward at the 2019 Atlantic 10 Championships this weekend in Orlando, Fla.

The Patriots head to the Sunshine State riding a wave of recent success.
The women's program – winner of five of its last eight matches – enters the tournament as the No. 10 seed. The Patriots (17-9) will open the tournament against seventh-seeded Fordham on Wednesday (April 24) at 3 p.m.
The Green & Gold have benefited from a bevy of young talent and some sturdy senior leadership all season long. Freshmen
Hannah Harrod and
Jackie Nannery have dazzled all season long, partnering to go 13-7 in dual doubles. In singles, Harrod – the A-10 Rookie of the Week on Apr. 15 – is 12-6 and 3-2 in league play. Nannery is 12-6 in dual action. In addition, freshman
Marium Raza has won 10 of her 11 dual matches on the year and is a perfect 6-0 at No. 6 singles, providing some welcome consistency on that end of the lineup.
At the top, senior
Sydney Green has put the finishing touches on an outstanding Mason career with a steady season at No. 1. She has gone 12-9 from the top spot at singles and has partnered with sophomore
Brianna Gibbs to again to find success this season at No. 1 doubles. That duo has 10 dual doubles victories in 2018-19.
Doubles has been much improved for the Patriots this season. In addition to Green/Gibbs and the Harrod/Nannery partnership, junior
Rachel Lee and sophomore
Hannah Yang have combined to pick up 10 victories.
On the men's side, the Patriots are in the midst of one of the best seasons in recent memory. The Green & Gold have claimed the No. 6 seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship, which ties the program best set in 2013-14. Mason is 4-2 in the league, with victories over Dayton, La Salle, Duquesne and Saint Joseph's.
Much like the women, the men's team has benefited from a much-improved doubles side in 2019. Graduate student
Pally Ray and sophomore
Ryan Charles have been reliable and consistent at the top spot, posting a 9-6 dual record on the year. In addition, junior
Edward Ayers and graduate student
Giuliano Buzoianu have reignited their previous partnership from seasons past over the back half of the A-10 slate and have won two of three league matches as a duo.
In singles, Ayers is continuing his outstanding Mason career with an unwavering confidence at the top spot. The San Antonio product is 10-6 in dual action this season and a solid 3-2 in A-10 singles. He was named A-10 Player of the Week on April 8 after clinching the win over Dayton.
Elsewhere, Buzoianu has continued his role as a senior leader with a perfect 4-0 record in A-10 singles. He's 7-4 overall in dual singles and clinched the win over Duquesne with his victory.
Junior
Jakob Nielsen has been beastly during the dual season and will look to further his success within the Atlantic 10 during the tournament. The Canadian has won 10 of his past 12 singles matches and is 4-2 in league play, primarily from the No. 3 spot.
Nielsen and the Patriots open the event on Thursday (April 25) vs. No. 11 seed La Salle. That match will begin at noon from the USTA National Campus.
