Philadelphia, Pa. - The George Mason softball team fell to Saint Joseph's, 4-0, in Sunday's series finale. The Hawks took two-of-three to win the Atlantic 10 series. Mason drops to 16-21 overall and 4-8 in conference play.
The Patriots will head to the District for a doubleheader against George Washington on Wednesday, followed by a three-game home series against La Salle on Friday and Saturday.
As the Hawks put runs on the board in early going, the Patriots struggled to respond on offense, going down 1-2-3 in the first three innings. Wells drew a walk in the fourth inning to put Mason's first runner on base, but the Patriots would leave her stranded. In the fifth inning,
Saige Cisler spoiled SJU's chance of a no-hitter with a bunt. After a quiet sixth inning, Mason had one final chance to plate its first run.
Liz Seymour started the frame with a leadoff single.
Taylor Dadig took Seymour's place at first on a fielder's choice. Cisler knocked her second hit of the game to move Dadig into scoring position. However, with two outs, freshman
EJ Bankson struck out swining to end the game.
Saint Joseph's put runs on the board in the first, third and fifth frame. All of their runs were scored with two outs in the inning. A RBI single in the first plated the first run for the Hawks. Later in the third, SJU hit a 2 RBI double to extend its lead, 3-0. One final RBI double scored the final run of the game in the fifth frame. SJU's Ventura improved to 11-11 while
Marina Vitalich dropped to 6-5.
Redshirt sophomore
Adriana Erickson's 10-game hitting streak came to an end as the first baseman went 0-for-3 at the plate. Cisler led the offense with two hits while Wells drew two walks in the loss.
