SCOUTING VIRGINIA
The Cavaliers rank sixth in the country and are coming off their first loss of the season after starting 5-0 as they fell 16-11 at No. 4 Syracuse on Saturday in the Carrier Dome. Junior Sammy Mueller leads the Hoos with 16 goals. Senior Maggie Jackson, from nearby Alexandria, leads the team with 17 assists and 28 points. This is Mason's first time playing Virginia since 2011 and first trip to Charlottesville in nine years. The Patriots have never beaten the Cavs in 13 tries.

MORGAN RETURNS TO UVA
Mason's fifth year head coach Jessy Morgan returns to her alma mater on Wednesday. Morgan played at UVA from 2004-07. She was an All-American defender who helped the Cavaliers win the 2004 national championship. She graduated from Virginia in 2007 with her bachelor's degree in English. She also spent four years as an assistant coach at UVA from 2011-14, serving as recruiting and defensive coordinator.

BALSAMA NAMED ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Freshman Deanna Balsama was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Monday for the third time this season. The attacker from Sewell, N.J., scored seven goals, dished out three assists and recorded 10 points in a pair of wins last week. She scored a career-high four goals on five shots in a 17-10 victory over Canisius on Sunday in the Patriots' home opener at George Mason Stadium. Through five games she leads the team in goals (14) and points (20) and is second in assists (six).

LAST TIME OUT
The Patriots pulled away for a 17-10 victory over Canisius on Sunday in their home opener at George Mason Stadium. Senior Chachi Kelehan scored a season-high five goals and had two assists. Freshman Deanna Balsama added a career-high four goals. A tied game at halftime, Mason scored seven straight goals in the second half to win their third straight. Sophomore Erin Donoghue added two goals and seven draw controls and Melissa Semkiw improved to 3-1 on the season, making nine saves and collecting four ground balls.
 
SEASON PROSPECTUS
The Patriots return seven starters and 18 letterwinners from a 2018 team that went 11-7, finished fourth in the Atlantic 10 and reached the conference tournament for the fourth straight year. A-10 Rookie of the Year Erin Donoghue returns after a breakthrough season in which she became the first Mason freshman to earn All-Conference First Team honors. The midfielder ranked second on the team in goals (44), points (51), draw controls (86) and ground balls (29). Senior Chachi Kelehan earned Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team honors, leading the team with 52 goals last year and set the single-season school record with 76 points.
TEAM CAPTAINS
Seniors Chachi Kelehan and Rachel Woods were chosen as team captains before the season. Kelehan, an attacker from Ellicott City, Md., ranks third at Mason in all-time points (179), fourth in goals (127) and sixth in assists (52). Woods, a defender from Longmeadow, Mass., is a three-year starter who ranked third on the team last year with 14 caused turnovers.
