FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason softball team fell in its Atlantic 10 home opener on Saturday afternoon at the George Mason Softball Complex. The Patriots fell to Fordham, 3-1 and 5-4, to drop to 11-17 overall and 1-4 in conference play. Mason will wrap up the series with one final game Sunday, first pitch slated for noon.
In game one,
Hannah Thomas notched the fourth RBI of her career to bring in Mason's lone run of the game. Senior
Liz Seymour and sophomore
Adriana Erickson each added two hits in the game but ultimately the Patriots left seven runners on base. Junior
Bekah Ansbro (6-6) pitched a complete game, allowing three runs on eight hits. She added four strikeouts in the 3-1 loss.
In game two, Mason loaded the bases in the second inning as
Meghan Graham drove in Mason's first run of the game. The Patriots went into the fifth inning with a 1-0 lead. However, the Rams used a five-run, five-hit inning to take the lead. Mason did not go away so easily, responding with a three-run, four-hit bottom of the fifth inning. Ultimately, the comeback fell just short as the Patriots suffered the 5-4 loss. Seymour, Erickson and
Taylor Dadig each added a hit and RBI in the contest.
Haellie Gordon recorded the loss to drop to 1-8 on the season.
