FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason softball team wraps up its homestand with a doubleheader against Saint Francis (Pa.) at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the George Mason Softball Complex.
The Patriots (7-12) will then head to Ohio for their conference opener against the Dayton Flyers on March 23-24.
LAST TIME OUT
Mason went 2-3 at the Mason Invitational, picking up wins over Cornell and East Carolina. The Patriots defeated Cornell 6-1 behind pitcher
Bekah Ansbro's career-high 13 strikeouts. In Mason's 4-3 win over East Carolina, senior
Liz Seymour hit a 2 RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extra innings. Freshman
Taylor Dadig earned her first career RBI with the game-winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth.
A-10 PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Ansbro was named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday. In two starts, Ansbro was 2-0 in 15.0 innings of work at the Mason Invitational. She pitched to a 1.40 ERA with a pair of complete games.
CONFERENCE PLAY IN SIGHT
Mason begins Atlantic 10 play on the road with a doubleheader against Dayton at noon on Saturday. The series finale will take place at noon on Sunday.
SCOUTING THE RED FLASH
Saint Francis: 10-18
The Red Flash went 2-3 at the Hoosier Classic on March 15-17, collecting wins over Toledo and Ohio. Saint Francis fell to No. 19 Indiana, 13-6, in the final game of the tournament.
The last time meeting between the two teams was for a doubleheader on April 19, 2005. The Patriots split the two games, picking up a 5-4 victory but falling 5-0 in the second game. Mason and Saint Francis were scheduled to meet in 2016 but the contest was canceled due to weather.
Mason leads the all-time series 13-8.
