Taylor Brown has learned to adjust as a basketball player. After her freshman season at Georgetown she decided to transfer and she had three standout years at George Mason before graduating in 2016.

But the Bowie, Md., product is now learning to adjust on and off the court in her third season of pro basketball in Europe. After her rookie pro year in Iceland, she has played the past two seasons in Luxembourg.

"I think one of the biggest difference in the rules between NCAA and Europe is when the shot clock goes off here, and say your team does not get their shot off on time before the shot clock goes off, but the ball still touches the rim after the shot clock goes off, the opponent team can just go, take the rebound, and continue playing the game on the offense," according to Brown, 25. "Usually back home in the states, that is considered a turnover, you must stop playing, and the opponent must take the ball out of bounds before resuming the game. The challenge with this was just remembering to keep playing regardless of the shot clock going off."

Brown is a guard who was averaging 23.7 points per game in late February for Residence, her team in Luxembourg. She was playing more than 38 minutes per game in 40-minute contests.

"The town I live in is called Walferdange," she wrote. "It is a nice, small town but I like it a lot because one of my favorite restaurants is right down the street from my apartment which is called the Chocolats du Coeur. A lot of people here in Luxembourg either work at the bank or are teachers. Luxembourg has a lot of nice restaurants such as Chinese, Italian, and Sushi."

"I travel a lot during free time," she added. "I recently just went to Barcelona, Spain. We have two off days during the week which is Monday and Wednesday. I usually travel on Sunday to Monday. Since everything is so close, it is easy to travel to other countries which I love to do. Also, I am a remote video editor for the Prince George's Sentinel (Maryland) newspaper. I edit at least one to two videos per week for the paper, such as high school basketball and football games."

She is also a substitute teacher at the International School of Luxembourg. "So far, I've been a substitute for the Film and Media classes and second grade classes," Brown noted.

Brown was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Third Team in 2016 and ranks second all-time at Mason in scoring, recording 1,693 points in just three years.

So what is a normal day like for Brown in Europe?

"A normal day here in Luxembourg, I wake up around 10 am, I go to Chocolats du Coeur in the morning and eat a crepe and drink a chocolate milkshake, I get shots up at noon with my teammate (the other American), then I go to lunch at the restaurant where we get free lunch, after lunch I usually read or take a nap, then I coach the youth team at 4 pm, after that I have about a hour and thirty minutes to kill before practice at 7 pm. I usually go back to the Chocolats du Coeur before practice and eat a small snack," she noted. "As you can tell, I love chocolate."

She first went overseas in 2016 when she played in Iceland.

"Iceland is a beautiful country and it was really cool I got to see the Northern Lights, a lot from outside my bedroom window and in the city," she wrote.

Along with Brown, Natalie Butler, the A-10 Player of the Year in 2018 for the Patriots, played a few games in Belgium last fall before returning to the states. The Lake Braddock High standout was a third-round pick of Atlanta in the WNBA draft last year. Forward Kristi Mokube, who played alongside Brown at Mason from 2014-16, also played three years overseas in Germany, Greece and Australia.

Among the former Mason men who have been at the pro level overseas this season include Will Thomas (Spain), Darryl Monroe (South Korea), Cameron Long (Israel), Isaiah Tate (Canada), Mike Morrison (Germany), Ryan Pearson (France), Bryon Allen (Italy), Jonathan Arledge (Latvia), Jalen Jenkins (Bulgaria) and Daniel Baptista (Portugal), according to eurobasket.com.

Monroe was averaging nearly 20 points per game in South Korea while Pearson and Allen were playing in two of the top leagues in western Europe. A Baltimore native, Thomas, who was a member of the Final Four team in 2006, has also played in Belgium, Georgia, Turkey and Italy in a pro career that began in 2008.
