FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason softball team hosts the Patriot Classic on March 1-3 at the George Mason Softball Complex in Fairfax, Va. The Patriots welcome Colgate and Albany for an eight-game, three-day tournament. 
 
Mason kicks off the tournament with two games on Friday against Colgate at 3:30 p.m. and Albany at 6 p.m. See below for the full schedule of events or visit the tournament central, here.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Patriots participated in the Madeira Beach Invitational on Feb. 15-17 in Madeira Beach, Fla. Mason went 3-2 on the weekend, picking up victories over Butler, Murray State and Central Arkansas.
 
WALK-OFF WARRIORS
On the second day of the Madeira Beach Invitational, Mason earned back-to-back walk-off victories. Against Butler, senior Liz Seymour hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to give Mason the 2-1 win. Against Murray State, Mason collected five hits for four runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the game, 6-3. Freshman EJ Bankson provided the spark with a three-run walk-off home run. 
 
SENIORS LEADING THE WAY
Senior Jess Curbeira has notched a hit in seven of Mason's eight games this season. She also leads the team in doubles, hitting three so far. Senior Liz Seymour excelled in the Madeira Beach Invitational, tabbing five hits and six RBIs. Her RBI mark currently leads the squad.
 
FRESHMEN PROMISE
Five of Mason's six freshmen have earned a start in at least one contest so far this season. Amber Verstynen has carried the majority of the load in the catching position while EJ Bankson has ignited Mason's offense with four hits and five RBIs. Bankson was most recently named Patriot of the Week for her performances on Feb. 15-17. 
 
In addition, transfer Saige Cisler has notched three hits in six appearances. 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Mason will take on Colgate (5-4) and Albany (1-4) this weekend. Both opponents recently participated in the Madeira Beach Invitational on Feb. 22-24 in Madeira Beach, Fla. Colgate won four straight in the tournament before falling to Drexel on the final day of play. 
 
Albany (1-4) picked up its first win of the season over Georgetown; but ultimately dropped their other four contests.
