Here ye, Here ye!
The City of Fairfax is getting decked out in green and gold in celebration of George Mason's Homecoming Week. Be Brave, Be Bold!
Fairfax City businesses have partnered with several Patriots athletic teams and Mason student organizations in a homecoming-window decorating competition, "Paint the City Green" to show their Patriot pride. The students created the homecoming themed window display from their own original designs.
Mayor David Meyer and councilmembers will select the top three designs from the 25 business that participate. The winners will be declared at the Mason men's basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 4 p.m. and on the Fairfax City Facebook page.
The Patriots' men's and women's track and field teams teamed up with Pacers Running to portray their Patriot pride and also promote the programs' big homecoming weekend as hosts of the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships at the George Mason Field House. Close to 20 team members sketched out the design that included a big basketball, game info, The Patriot and they depicted their sport with track and field events icons sketched along the bottom of the mural.
Women's volleyball chose a fiery themed design to coincide with their storefront window for Red Effect Infrared Fitness. Nine members of the team spent almost two hours at the business to create its colorful art design.
The women's rowing team focused on the school colors green and gold and chose to have the Patriot illustrated as a rower in their painting at DIY Scent Studio. The team opens its spring competition season in March.
The university and Fairfax City have also teamed up for "Patriots in the City" which offers discounts at local businesses during homecoming week. The promotion provides the George Mason community with discounts up to 20 percent off when you show your Mason ID or alumni pass available at alumni.gmu.edu.
