FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason wrestling team begins the 2020 portion of the season with six wrestlers competing at the Southern Scuffle, hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on Jan. 1-2 at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga, Tenn.
 
Three Patriots competed in the 2019 Southern Scuffle, Colston DeBlasi (149) competed at 165 pounds, Kolby Ho (157) and Justin Yorkdale (149).  Redshirt senior Alex Madrigal (141), Ryan Yorkdale (157) and graduate-student Anthony Lombardo (174) are competing for first time.
 
The Patriots have two wrestlers pre-seeded for the 2020 Southern Scuffle, presented by Compound Sportswear. Colston DiBlasi (15-7, 6-2) is seeded seventh at 149 and Kolby Ho (15-6, 7-1) is sixth at 157.

MAT FACTS
 
At the 2019 Southern Scuffle, DiBlasi nearly placed at 165 pounds, but dropped a 6-1 decision to Zach Finesilver (Duke) in the consolation round of 8.
 
This is the 17th year of the Southern Scuffle.  It was held in Greensboro, N.C. from 2003-10 and moved to Chattanooga in 2012.  It is the ninth year of the tournament under its current format at McKenzie Arena. Appalachian State, Navy, North Carolina and The Citadel the only teams that have participated every y

Only five different teams have won the Southern Scuffle in the 16-year history of the event. 

Cornell (2008, 2009, 2010), Minnesota (2004, 2005, 2007), Missouri (2003, 2006), Oklahoma State (2017) and Penn State (2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019) are the only teams to have claimed Southern Scuffle titles.
