FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team has been seeded seventh for the Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament and will face second-seeded VCU in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Va.  The opening kick is scheduled for 7 p.m.

2019 Atlantic 10 Tournament Bracket

George Mason, Davidson, Duquesne, George Washington and Massachusetts finished the regular season in a five-way tie with nine points in conference play.  Mason and Davidson qualified for the championships and have been seeded seventh and eighth based on the league's multi-team tiebreaker.

"One of the goals for this group entering the season was to get back to the conference tournament and compete for the conference championship," Mason head coach Greg Andrulis said.  "Despite an incredible number of setbacks this season, their perseverance and determination paid off.  Our team is excited to start the next phase of the season. VCU is a quality program led by one of college's best coaches and staff.  We are looking forward to the challenge before us and we will leave it all on the field next Saturday night."

The A-10 Championship begins with the quarterfinals at campus sites Nov. 9-10.  The semifinals and final will be played Nov. 15-17 at Fordham's Jack Coffey Field in The Bronx, N.Y.

Mason (4-12-1, 3-5-0 A10) will face VCU (7-7-2, 6-1-1 A10) for the second straight week.  The Patriots fell to the Rams, 1-0, in the final regular season match on Saturday night at George Mason Stadium.

VCU finished the regular season with a 6-1-1 conference record for 19 points.

The Patriots are headed to the tournament for the second straight year and for the fourth time since joining the A-10 in 2013.

Last season, Mason entered the tournament as the third seed and recorded a pair of double-overtime victories to advance to the championship match.

The Patriots defeated sixth-seeded Saint Louis, 1-0, in the quarterfinals at George Mason Stadium.  Pablo Pertusa Martinez scored the game-winner in the 108th minute.  In the semifinals against seventh-seeded Dayton, Grant Robinson netted the golden goal in the 102nd minute to lift Mason to a 1-0 win over the Flyers.

The Mason/VCU winner will move on to play the winner of the Dayton/La Salle match in the second semifinal scheduled for 4 p.m. at Jack Coffey Field in The Bronx, N.Y.  The winner of the Atlantic 10 Tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
