FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University men's basketball program has announced a home-and-home series with former conference rival Old Dominion.
The Patriots and Monarchs will begin the series next season, with a Nov. 13, 2020 game in Fairfax. Mason will return the trip with a date in Norfolk during the 2021-22 campaign.
The series is announced ahead of Monday's ODU-Mason battle in the Cayman Islands Classic – the first meeting between the programs since 2014.
"We are excited to begin this series with Old Dominion," head coach
Dave Paulsen said. "There is a storied history between our two programs and I know our fans will look forward to next season's game in EagleBank Arena. This series is another step in ensuring our team continues to schedule some of the premier programs in the Mid-Atlantic."
George Mason and Old Dominion will meet for the 58th time Monday when they battle in the Cayman Islands. Mason is 14-11 against ODU in Fairfax but 5-24 in Norfolk. The Patriots are 2-1 all time on neutral floors against the Monarchs, including a victory in the CAA Championship Game (63-58) on Feb. 28, 1999.
The Patriots lost 22 of the first 23 meetings between the schools from 1978-98, but Mason holds a 20-14 edge since.
