2019 Final Bracket
Annapolis, Md.-- George Mason wrestling placed three wrestlers at the 42nd Annual Navy Classic today.
"As a team, we started the day slow," said Head Coach
Frank Beasley. "We dropped some tough matches and it took a little bit to get going, but after we did, we had some great wins."
Alex Madrigal (141) finished with a 5-1 record,
Kolby Ho and
Colston DiBlasi each recorded 4-2 records in the 18-team event. Each wrestler earned a sixth-place finish.
Madrigal defeated S. Hanson-Ashworth by fall (2:23) before coming up short in the round of 32 to American's S. Profaci, 6-4. He went on to win the next four matches. Madrigal won the next two bouts by technical fall, 17-2 (3:33) against J. Dado and 16-1 (5:00) against C. Ciotti. He defeated top-20 wrestler G. Willits from Oregon State, 7-5.
"Alex made a few mental mistakes in his loss," said Head Coach Frank Beasely. "He went on a roll after that match, earning big wins against top talent. He did a nice job of attacking his opponents."
After falling in the first round to A. Hrisopoulos (MSU), DiBlasi (149) won four straight decisions. He had a major decision, 12-0, against S. Porter and a fall (6:58) versus Brown's Ricky Cabanillas. He dropped his final match of the day to Virginia Tech's Brent Moore, 5-4.
"Colston go caught in a bad position in his first match and was defensively pinned," said Beasley. "After that he was as offensive as I've ever seen. He had some quality wins and battled one of the top ranked wrestlers to the end."
At 157,
Kolby Ho won four straight matches after dropping is opening match to E. Karsten. He won the bout against top-20 wrestler Logan Meek from Oregon State, 10-8.
"Kolby picked up some very good wins," said Beasley. "He showed how good he can be when he is aggressive. His movement and attacks were phenomenal."
UP NEXT
The Patriots will host four matches at the Patriot Duals on Friday, December 6. Action will begin at Noon with a bout against VMI, followed by Gardner-Webb, Davidson and LIU. All matches will take place at the George Mason Field House.
