FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team will face its second Power Five test of the season when they take on Penn State Sunday.
 
Tip-off between the Nittany Lions and Patriots is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pa. Sunday's game will be broadcast nationally on BTN+. In addition, Shawn Ouellete will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with pre-game coverage beginning at 1:45 p.m.
 
PATRIOT POINTS
* Last time out, Mason used a strong second half effort to blow past American 73-55 on Thursday night at EagleBank Arena.
 
* The Patriots shot a season-best 50.0 percent (27-54 FG) from the floor, and a blistering 57.1 percent (8-14 FG) from behind the arc. In the second half alone, Mason shot 68.0 percent from the field, 60.0 percent from deep and 100.0 percent from the free throw line.
 
* Nicole Cardaño-Hillary tallied 17 of her team-high 23 points in the second half, going 7-of-12 from the floor during the third and fourth quarters combined.
 
* Mason improves to 3-0 when scoring more than 70 points in a contest. The Patriots are also 3-0 when three or more players finish in double figures.
 
* The Patriots have outscored their opponents, 88-55, in the second half over the last two games. Mason outscored American 43-26 in the final two quarters on Thursday.
 
* Senior Sarah Kaminski moved into sole possession of third in program history in career three-point field goals made with three three-pointers against American (Nov. 21). She surpassed Krista Jay (1994-98) and now sits at 147 career treys.
 
* Seniors Jacy Bolton and Alexsis Grate each went 4-of-7 from the field vs. AU, contributing 10 points apiece in the victory.
 
* Mason and Penn State will meet for just the third time in program history. The two teams will be meeting for the first time since 2005, when PSU defeated Mason 68-62 on Dec. 6 in Fairfax.
 
* The Patriots rank second in the conference in turnover margin (2.25). Mason had reached its season average of 13 turnovers in the first half vs. AU, but kept its giveaways to just seven in the second half.
 
* Cardaño-Hillary is second in the Atlantic 10 in scoring (18.0). She has recorded back-to-back games in double figures (23 vs. AU, 19 vs. UDM).
 
* Cardaño-Hillary began the season 14th all-time in Mason program history with 1,218 points. With five points, she can crack the top-10 and tie Toni Battle (1987-91) with 1,295 points.
 
* Mason will play three of its next four games on the road, traveling next to Conway, S.C., for the Coastal Carolina Thanksgiving Classic from Nov. 29-Dec. 1.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Mason and Penn State will meet for just the third time in program history. The two teams will be meeting for the first time since 2005, when PSU defeated Mason 68-62 on Dec. 6 in Fairfax. Penn State also claimed a 76-48 victory over the Patriots on Dec. 2, 2004. Mason last defeated a Power Five school on Nov. 14, 2014 when the Patriots earned a 77-69 win over Virginia Tech.
 
SCOUTING PENN STATE
Penn State earned a gritty 68-55 win over Clemson Thursday night at the Bryce Jordan Center. Penn State held a 14-point halftime lead that was trimmed down to one midway through the third quarter thanks to a 13-0 Clemson run. The Lady Lions responded with a 10-0 streak that would help Penn State outscore the Tigers 28-16 in the final 15 minutes to secure the 68-55 victory.
 
The Lady Lions picked up their third win over a 2019 NCAA Tournament team this season. Penn State also defeated 2019 NCAA Tournament competitors Towson and Fordham. Senior Siyeh Frazier recorded second double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds, in addition to five assists and three steals. Sophomore Lauren Ebo tallied a career-high 16 points on a 7-for-8 effort from the field.
 
The Lady Lions have already battled two Atlantic 10 opponents this season, with a record of 1-1 against the competition. PSU defeated Fordham 72-59 on Nov. 13 but fell to La Salle 69-67 on Nov. 17.
 
UP NEXT
Mason returns home to host UMKC on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m., before traveling to Conway, S.C., for the Coastal Carolina Thanksgiving Classic from Nov. 29-Dec. 1.
