FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host the annual Patriot Invitational, welcoming eight teams for the meet beginning on Thursday, Nov. 21 and running through Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Jim McKay Natatorium.
Mason will compete against American, Drexel, Florida Atlantic, Richmond, Seton Hall, Shippensburg, UMBC and UNCW.
Last season, the Patriots men's team placed third, while the women's team finished fifth.
On the women's side, all nine teams finished in the exact same order at the 2018 Patriot Invitational as they did in the event in 2017.
UNCW won the meet with 731 points, Drexel was second with 722 points and Florida Atlantic took third with 681 points, followed by Seton Hall (412.5), Mason (406), Richmond (301), UMBC (296), American (295.5) and Shippensburg (24).
Megan Cummins placed fourth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:03.11) and was seventh in the 500-yard freestyle (5:01.15).
Sophie McKinley won the B Final of the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.67).
Marina Toone made the podium with a third-place finish in the three-meter (241.45) and placed fifth in the one-meter (236.55).
On the men's side at the Patriot Invitational last season, UNCW won the meet with 845 points, Drexel was second with 640 points and Mason finished third with 597 points, followed by Seton Hall (540), Florida Atlantic (537), UMBC (481), American (118) and Shippensburg (71).
Ryan Donnelly took second in the 400-yard IM (4:02.52), was sixth in the 200-yard IM (1:53.17) and recorded a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (1:51.54).
Attila Kiss made the podium with a third-place finish in the 400-yard IM (4:03.60), placed eighth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:13.75) and was 10th in the 200-yard IM (1:53.74).
Dylan Peck placed fourth in the 200-yard butterfly (1:50.83),
Logan Eubanks placed eighth in the 100-yard backstroke (53.07) and
Drake Moretz was eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (46.61).
Nick Ashton won the B Final of the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.93).
The combination of Donnelly, Moretz, Kiss and Ashton won the 800-yard freestyle relay (6:46.08).
In the deep end of the pool,
Colin Graves took third in both the one-meter (269.80) and three-meter (281.40).
Joe Amato was fifth in the three-meter (234.90) and sixth in the one-meter (221.90).

Both the Mason men's and women's teams claimed the Patriot Invitational title in 2014 and 2015.
