FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason women's basketball has received national letters of intent for the early signing period from Taylor Jameson and Vanessa Laumbach, head coach Nyla Milleson announced this week.
Jameson, a 5-foot-6 point guard, averaged 18 points, five steals and 10 assists per game at Wichita Heights High School in Wichita, Kan. She also dazzled from the free throw line with an 80.0 percent average.
The Wichita, Kan., native played a big part in the Falcons' City League Title last year, and their run to the 5A State Tournament. She was recognized to the 2019 Wichita Area All-League City Second Team for her performances last season.
At the 2019 Lady Thunderbird Classic Tournament, she was named Most Valuable Player, scoring 22 points in the championship game. She plans to major in marketing.
"Taylor is a strong, athletic, high-IQ guard that commands a serious presence when she steps on the floor on both ends," said Milleson. "Her ability to score makes people around her better. Her disruptiveness on defense will be very beneficial to our program."
Laumbach, a 6-foot-1 forward, will bring versatility to Mason's post play in 2020-21. She averaged 10 points, five rebounds and shots 53.0 percent from the floor at Woodbridge High School in Woodbridge, Va.
A proven winner, Laumbach helped her team claim the 2019 Class 6 State Championship. She was named 2019 First Team All-State and 2019 Honorable Mention All-Met. She tabbed Player of the Game honors three times for the Vikings in 2019.
The Woodbridge, Va., native boasts a 4.0 GPA and plans to pursue a degree in the science field.
"Vanessa is a skilled, high-IQ post player," said Milleson. "She has competed at the highest level in Virginia for a state championship. She knows what it takes to win. Her ability to score, pass and change shots on defense will be a great addition to our post play."
