RICHMOND, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team fell to the VCU Rams in straight sets on Friday night. The Patriots drop to 4-18 overall and 0-10 in Atlantic 10 play. The Rams remain unbeaten in league play with a record of 9-0.
Mason will play its final road match of the season at 1 p.m. Sunday against Davidson at Belk Arena in Davidson, N.C.
Sophomore ShaLi Niu led the Patriots with nine kills at a .308 clip. She also tallied six digs and one block in the loss. Freshman Stephanie Der posted her 16th match this season with double-digit digs (14).

VCU went on a 7-0 scoring run in the first frame to take the set, 25-15.

It was a back-and-forth battle in the second set but the Rams would use five straight points to take the stanza, 25-19.

The Patriots went on a 7-1 scoring run in the third set, powered by Emily Konchan and Marlanna Bozicevich behind the service line. The Rams finished the final set of play on a 7-1 scoring run of their own to take the frame, 25-18.

The Rams outhit the Patriots, .345 to .165. VCU totaled 53 kills compared to Mason's mark of 27.

Mason tabbed its highest hitting percentage in the second set (.259).
