FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams swam in their first dual meet of the 2019-20 season on Saturday at the Rawstrom Natatorium in Newark, Del.
The Mason men's team won 13 events and defeated the Blue Hens 203-97, while the women's team won two events and fell to Delaware, 204.5-75.5.
On the men's side, the combination of seniors
Logan Eubanks and
Christopher Stankiewicz, junior
Devin Truong and sophomore
Will Rastatter won the 200-yard medley relay (1:34.48). Stankiewicz took first place in the 100-yard backstroke (58.58) with freshman
Jake Ball right behind in second (1:00.02).
Senior
Attila Kiss took the top spot in two events. He won the 1000-yard freestyle (9:41.22), while freshman
Jackson Knouse placed third in the event (10:03.01). Kiss also swam to a victory in the 500-yard freestyle (4:43.75).
Senior
Ryan Donnelly won a pair of events. He touched the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke (51.78), with classmate
Logan Eubanks placing third (53.16). Donnelly also won the 200-yard backstroke (1:52.65), with sophomore
Sam Westmont second (1:55.20).
Mason went one-two in the 200-yard butterfly with junior
Andres Alarcon first (1:54.80) and classmate
Dylan Peck just over a second back to take second (1:56.02). The Patriots went one-two in the 100-yard butterfly, with Alarcon winning his second event of the meet (52.33) and Truong finishing second (52.50).
Junior
Drake Moretz claimed the 100-yard freestyle (47.44) while Stankiewicz was third in the event (48.18).
The Patriots swept the top three spots in the 400-yard IM, with freshman
Thomas Chapman taking first place (4:11.40), Kiss second (4:16.56) and sophomore
Timothy McKinley third (4:20.84).
In the 200-yard freestyle the Patriots finished two-three, with Moretz second (1:43.34) and sophomore
Nick Ashton third (1:45.71). Junior
Wallace Watkins was second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.43) and Ball was third (2:12.80) in the event.
In the final event of the afternoon, the team of Donnelly, Moretz, Peck and Ashton won the 400-yard freestyle by nearly three seconds (3:07.70).
In the deep end of the pool, senior
Gerald Hodges, Jr. won both the one-meter (260.30) and three-meter (267.00) events. Senior
Joe Amato placed third in the one-meter (192.10) and second in the three-meter (216.80).
On the women's side, sophomore
Jacquee Clabeaux won two events. She took the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle (23.82), while sophomore
Chloe Fite was third (25.29) and sophomore
Ariana Lewis placed fourth (25.33).
Clabeaux also claimed the 100-yard freestyle (52.14), while freshman
Emily Lewantowicz was fifth in the event (54.68).
In the opening 200-yard medley relay, junior
Shannon Glesing, freshman
Leah Riley, Lewis and Clabeaux placed second (1:49.56). Glesing also placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.21) and Riley took third in the 100-yard butterfly (59.97).
The Patriots took two of the top three spots in the 1000-yard freestyle, with sophomore
Megan Cummins finishing second (10:40.01) and classmate
Sophie McKinley third (10:59.90). McKinley added a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.37).
In the 200-yard freestyle, sophomore
Laura Hodge just missed the podium with a fourth-place finish (1:57.34). Sophomore
Annie McNenny placed fourth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.10), missing the podium by a tenth of a second.
Sophomore
Hannah Milikich took second in the 100-yard backstroke (59.79), while freshman
Lauren Ashton was fifth in the event (1:00.01). Milikich also placed second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.34).
In the 500-yard freestyle, Hodge was third (5:16.93) and Cummins placed fourth (5:17.20). The combination of Clabeaux, Glesing, Hodge and Lewantowicz swam to a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle (3:38.66).
The Patriots are back in action at the Richmond Duals Oct. 18-19 in Richmond, Va.
