NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team has been selected to finish sixth in the Atlantic 10 women's basketball preseason poll, conducted by the league's 14 head coaches.
This marks the Patriots' highest preseason projection since joining the league prior to the 2013-14 season.
VCU was selected as the preseason favorite, receiving 11 first place votes for a total of 189 points. Dayton was picked to finish second with 177 points and one first place vote followed by Fordham with 174 points and one first place vote.
Saint Louis (138) was slated to finish fourth with one first place vote followed by Davidson (135) and George Mason (116).
The Patriots continued their steady rise within the Atlantic 10 during a successful 2018-19 campaign. Mason captured 16 regular season wins, including eight Atlantic 10 victories. Mason earned the No. 7 seed in the Atlantic 10 Tournament and hosted a game for the second-consecutive season.

Nicole Cardaño-Hillary. The Patriots posted back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in 15 years. The 40 wins over the last two years are also the most in a two-year stretch in program history.
The Atlantic 10 wraps up preseason coverage with the announcement of the 2019-20 Preseason All- Conference Teams Thursday, Oct. 31.
Mason opens the 2019-20 campaign at College of Charleston at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6 in Charleston, S.C.
