DAYTON, Ohio – The Dayton Flyers proved to be too much for the George Mason women's volleyball team on Sunday afternoon. The Patriots fell in straight sets – 25-10, 25-15, 25-14 – to move to 4-17 overall and 0-9 in Atlantic 10 play.
The Flyers won their 10th straight match, including nine straight A-10 matches, to remain unbeaten in conference play.
Mason will head south for a pair of matches against VCU (Nov. 1) and Davidson (Nov. 3) next weekend. The Patriots will then round out the 2019 schedule with three-straight home matches, beginning with George Washington on Nov. 8.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Mason debuted a new lineup, composed of only freshmen and sophomores. Sophomore Marlanna Bozicevich earned the start as a defensive specialist but transitioned into outside hitter for the second and third sets.
- The Flyers totaled nine service aces, including seven in the first set.
- Mason hit a season-low -.141 in the match, compared to Dayton's mark of .271. It marked the first time this season the Patriots hit in the negatives as a team.
- The Patriots were able to get their block going, registering eight in the match. Sophomore Peyton Ehmke added five blocks while fellow sophomore Siron Hardy posted four stuffs.
- Mason was limited to just 15 team kills. Bozicevich, Hardy, Ehmke and ShaLi Niu all added three kills in the match.
- Dayton's Jamie Peterson led all attackers with 16 kills at a .289 clip and eight blocks.
