Patriots Set For Pivotal Road Match at Fordham on Saturday

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team plays its final road match of the regular season, facing Fordham on Saturday with the opening kick scheduled for 7 p.m. at Jack Coffey Field in Bronx, N.Y.
 
Last time out, Mason (4-10-1, 3-3-0 A-10) allowed a goal in each half in a 2-0 setback against La Salle on Wednesday at George Mason Stadium.  The Explorers scored goals in the 38th and 86th minute of play.
 
Mason senior forward Tunde Akinlosotu led all players with five shots and two shots on goal, while sophomore goalkeeper Brison Moorhead made four saves in the match.
 
Entering the weekend, the Patriots are in a four-way tie for sixth place in the Atlantic 10 standings along with Davidson, George Washington and La Salle.  All four teams have identical 3-3-0 conference records for nine points.
 
Fordham is currently alone in fifth place in the A-10 with a 3-2-1 record for 10 points.  Eight teams in the conference, from second place through sixth place, are separated by six points in the standings.
 
Akinlosotu leads the team in assists (5) and points (10), while his three goals are second on the club.  He is tied for third in the A-10 in assists (5) and tied for eighth in the league in points (11).    
 
Senior midfielder Ryan Mingachos leads the team in goals (4) and is second on the squad in points (10).  He is second in the conference in shots (52) and tied for the fifth-most goals (4) in the league.
 
Moorhead (3-5-1, 3-3-0 A-10) has started nine games and has a 1.66 goals against average.  He has made 43 saves and allowed 16 goals on the season.
 
Mason and Fordham have met just four times, with the Patriots holding a 3-0-1 record in the all-time series against the Rams.  The Patriots have outscored the Rams by a combined score of 12-2 over the four matchups.
 
In the last meeting between the two teams, the Patriots and Rams battled to a 1-1 draw in double overtime on Sept, 30, 2017 at George Mason Stadium.  Fordham scored the equalizer in the 84th minute to force overtime.
 
SCOUTING FORDHAM
 
The Rams have an overall record of 4-9-2, including a mark of 3-2-1 against Atlantic 10 opponents.  Fordham is 3-3-0 at home and 1-6-2 on the road this season.
 
Last time out, Fordham and VCU played to a 0-0 double overtime draw on Wednesday at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Va.
 
Senior defender Joergen Oland leads the team in goals (4) and points (8), while graduate student forward Filippo Ricupati is second on the club in goals (3) and is tied for second in points (6).  Senior midfielder Bart Dziedzic leads the Rams in assists (4) and is tied for second in points (6).
 
In goal, graduate student goalkeeper Konstantin Weis (4-9-1/1.30) has played 15 games with 46 saves and 21 goals against.
 
CORNER KICK
 
Mason is playing at Fordham for just the second time in program history.  The Patriots defeated the Rams, 5-1, on Oct. 25, 2015 in their lone visit Jack Coffey Field.
 
GLIMPSE AT THE PATRIOTS
 
The Patriots return 20 letterwinners and five of their top-six scorers from last year's team that advanced to the Atlantic 10 Championship game.
 
Seniors Tunde Akinlosotu and Grant Robinson tied for the team lead in goals (5) during the 2018 season, while Akinlosotu's 15 points led the club.  Senior Ryan Mingachos tied for second on the team in goals (4), assists (4) and points (12).
 
The Patriots finished the 2018 campaign with a 9-8-0 overall record and posted a 5-3-0 mark against A-10 opponents, tying for third place in the conference during the regular season.  Mason was 6-3-0 at home, 2-4-0 on the road and 1-1 in games played at a neutral site.
 
In the A-10 quarterfinals, the Patriots defeated Saint Louis in double-overtime, 1-0.  In the semifinals at the Billiken Sports Center, Mason defeated Dayton, 1-0, in double-overtime to advance to the championship game for the first time since the 2013 season.
