FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team returns home to face La Salle on Wednesday with the opening kick scheduled for 7 p.m. at George Mason Stadium.
 
Last time out, Mason (4-9-1, 3-2-0 A-10) fell to St. Bonaventure, 3-1, on Saturday at the Marra Athletics Complex in Olean, N.Y.
 
Mason senior defender Pablo Pertusa Martinez scored the equalizer with his second goal of the season in the 59th minute, but the Bonnies netted goals in the 71st and 73rd minute for the victory.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Brison Moorhead made four saves in the match.  The Patriots outshot the Bonnies, 11-8, and Mason recorded six shots on goal.  
 
Senior forward Tunde Akinlosotu leads the team in assists (5) and points (11), while his three goals are second on the club.  He is tied for fourth in the A-10 in assists (5) and tied for eighth in points (11).  Akinlosotu has scored all three of his goals this season at George Mason Stadium. 
 
Senior midfielder Ryan Mingachos leads the team in goals (4) and is second on the squad in points (10).  He is second in the conference in shots (50) and ninth in the league in goals (4) and points (10).
 
Moorhead (3-4-1, 3-2-0 A-10) has started eight games and has a 1.62 goals against average.  He has made 39 saves and allowed 14 goals on the season.
 
The Patriots and Explorers have met eight times, with the all-time series tied, 3-3-2. 
 
Last season, Mason defeated La Salle, 3-0, at McCarthy Stadium in Philadelphia.  Daniel Damiani and Grant Robinson scored in the first half, while Mingachos added a goal late in the second half.  
 
SCOUTING LA SALLE
 
The Explorers have an overall record of 6-7-1, including a mark of 2-3-0 against Atlantic 10 opponents.  La Salle is 5-3-1 at home and 1-4-0 on the road this season.
 
Last time out, the Explorers allowed a shorthanded goal in the 88th minute in a 2-1 loss to Villanova at McCarthy Stadium in Philadelphia.  Freshman midfielder Isak Sedin scored his second goal of the season to account for La Salle's lone goal of the match.
 
The Explorers outshot the Wildcats, 15-5, including an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.  La Salle freshman goalkeeper Carlos Mora made two saves in the game.
 
On the road this season, La Salle has one victory and has been outscored by a combined score of 10-4.  The Explorers defeated Howard, 1-0, on Sept. 24 in Washington, D.C. for their lone road win of the year.
 
Senior midfielder Pat McCarthy leads the team in goals (4) and points (9), while sophomore forward Nigel Buckley is second on the club in goals (3) and points (7).
 
In goal, sophomore Brett Werner (4-6-0/1.62 GAA) has played in 10 games with 51 saves and 16 goals against.  Mara (2-1-1/1.31 GAA) has played in six games with 11 saves and allowed six goals.
 
CORNER KICK
 
The Patriots and Explorers have faced each other eight times, with the all-time series tied, 3-3-2.  Mason is 1-1-2 against La Salle since joining the Atlantic 10 in 2013.
 
Mason and La Salle played for the first time 20 years ago, with the Patriots downing the Explorers in overtime, 2-1, on Sept. 18, 1999.

GLIMPSE AT THE PATRIOTS
 
The Patriots return 20 letterwinners and five of their top-six scorers from last year's team that advanced to the Atlantic 10 Championship game.
 
Seniors Tunde Akinlosotu and Grant Robinson tied for the team lead in goals (5) during the 2018 season, while Akinlosotu's 15 points led the club.  Senior Ryan Mingachos tied for second on the team in goals (4), assists (4) and points (12).
 
The Patriots finished the 2018 campaign with a 9-8-0 overall record and posted a 5-3-0 mark against A-10 opponents, tying for third place in the conference during the regular season.  Mason was 6-3-0 at home, 2-4-0 on the road and 1-1 in games played at a neutral site.
 
In the A-10 quarterfinals, the Patriots defeated Saint Louis in double-overtime, 1-0.  In the semifinals at the Billiken Sports Center, Mason defeated Dayton, 1-0, in double-overtime to advance to the championship game for the first time since the 2013 season.
