DAVIDSON, N.C. - A shutout effort by the George Mason women's soccer team (3-9-1, 1-5 A-10) leads to a Mason overtime victory on Sunday against Davidson (8-5-2, 3-2-1 A-10) by a score of 1-0.
Freshman forward Grace Hotaling earned her third goal of the season on a breakaway chance in the 97th minute of the match, minutes before the first overtime period concluded. The score came on a play from redshirt sophomore Emma Lee, who earned her third assist in as many games, which gave Hotaling a chance to fire a shot into the top right corner of the net for the game winner.
Hotaling now shares the team lead for goals (3) with juniors Kayla Hamric and Jisca Adigo. Lee, who has only started three games this season, is now tied for second on the team in assists (3).
The Patriots' defense performed very well, holding the Wildcats to seven total shots (three on goal) and recording Mason's third shutout of the season. Junior goalkeeper Louisa Moser earned her second shutout of the season.
Moser has contributed in all three shutouts of the season for Mason, as she played in the final 20 minutes of the Patriots' first shutout, recording a collective shutout with fellow keeper Morgan Symmers on Sept. 8 against Binghamton.
"Another tough road game in the conference," head coach Todd Bramble said. "Another good performance by our team but this time the result went our way. The coaching staff is proud of the resolve this team has shown."
