FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team returns home to face Davidson on Saturday with the opening kick scheduled for 7 p.m. at George Mason Stadium.
 
Last time out, Mason (3-8-1, 2-1-0 A-10) fell to the Billikens, 2-0, on Wednesday at Hermann Stadium in St. Louis, Mo.  The Billikens scored one goal in each half in the victory.
 
Mason sophomore goalkeeper Brison Moorhead made a career-high nine saves in the match, including six in the second half of play.  Senior forward Tunde Akinlosotu led the Patriots with two shots on goal.
 
Senior midfielder Ryan Mingachos leads the team in goals (4), is tied for first on the club in points (10) and ranks second in assists (2).  Among league leaders, Mingachos is second in shots (44), tied for eighth in points and ranks 10th in goals.   
 
Akinlosotu paces the Patriots in assists (4), is second on the squad in goals (3) and tied for first in points (10).  He is tied for second in the A-10 in game-winners, tied for fourth in the league in assists and is tied for eighth in points.  Akinlosotu has scored all three of his goals at George Mason Stadium.
 
Moorhead (2-3-1, 2-1-0 A-10) has started six games and has a 1.69 goals against average.  He has made 31 saves and allowed 11 goals on the season.
 
The Patriots have a record of 4-1-1 in the all-time series against the Wildcats, including a 2-1-0 mark at home.  Five of the six meetings between Mason and Davidson have been decided by one goal or less. 
 
Mason defeated Davidson, 1-0, on Oct. 27, 2018 at George Mason Stadium to clinch a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship tournament.  Midfielder Daniel Damiani scored the Patriots' lone goal in the 26th minute, while goalkeeper Clark Gronek made five saves in the match.
 
SCOUTING DAVIDSON
 
The Wildcats have an overall record of 2-6-2, including a mark of 1-2-0 against Atlantic 10 opponents.  Davidson is 2-2-1 at home and 0-4-1 on the road this season.
 
Last time out, the Wildcats blanked Massachusetts, 1-0, on Wednesday in Davidson, N.C.  Senior midfielder Jaylen Thompson scored the lone goal of the match in the 86th minute to lift the Wildcats to their first A-10 victory of the season.
 
The Wildcats dropped their last road match, falling to VCU 2-1 in double overtime on Oct. 5 at SportsBackers Stadium in Richmond, Va.  The Rams netted the golden goal with less than two minutes remaining.
 
Junior midfielder Jamie Diluzio leads the team in assists (4) and points (8), while his two goals are second on the club.  Freshman forward Justin Stone paces the Wildcats in goals (3) and is second on the squad in points (6).
 
Senior goalkeeper Sawyer Gaffney (2-3-2) has played 10 games with a 1.60 goals against average.  He has made 30 saves and allowed 17 goals on the season.
 
CORNER KICK
 
Mason and Davidson have met once in Atlantic 10 Tournament play, with the Patriots earning a 4-2 victory on penalty kicks in the first round on Nov. 13, 2014 in Richmond, Va.
 
Mason goalkeeper Michael Butts allowed Davidson to sink only two of its four kicks, while Jannik Eckenrode, Daniel Hoffman, Conlan Kemmerer, Timi Mulgrew converted penalty kicks for the Patriots.
 
GLIMPSE AT THE PATRIOTS
 
The Patriots return 20 letterwinners and five of their top-six scorers from last year's team that advanced to the Atlantic 10 Championship game.
 
Seniors Tunde Akinlosotu and Grant Robinson tied for the team lead in goals (5) during the 2018 season, while Akinlosotu's 15 points led the club.  Senior Ryan Mingachos tied for second on the team in goals (4), assists (4) and points (12).
 
The Patriots finished the 2018 campaign with a 9-8-0 overall record and posted a 5-3-0 mark against A-10 opponents, tying for third place in the conference during the regular season.  Mason was 6-3-0 at home, 2-4-0 on the road and 1-1 in games played at a neutral site.
 
In the A-10 quarterfinals, the Patriots defeated Saint Louis in double-overtime, 1-0.  In the semifinals at the Billiken Sports Center, Mason defeated Dayton, 1-0, in double-overtime to advance to the championship game for the first time since the 2013 season.
