Patriots Host Coker on Friday for Game of the Week

GAME OF THE WEEK: Friday's match against Coker will be Mason's Game of the Week. All Mason students will receive free Chick-fil-A with valid Mason ID. 
 
FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's volleyball team will welcome Coker College at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Recreation Athletic Complex for its lone match of the weekend. The Patriots, ranked 13th in the country, will round out a two-game homestand before setting out on a four-game road stretch.
 
The Patriots recently completed its home-to-home series with EIVA opponent Charleston (W.Va.) to improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in EIVA play.
 
NO. 13 IN THE NATION
The Patriots checked in at No. 13 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) DI-DII Coaches Poll, announced by the AVCA on Monday. Last week (Jan. 21), the Patriots earned its first ranking this season at No. 14. In the history of the AVCA poll, Mason has ranked in the Top-15 162 times and Top-10 36 times. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
Mason completed a home-and-home series with Charleston (W.Va.) on Jan. 25. The Patriots swept the Golden Eagles behind senior Justin Coleman's 41 assists, leading Mason to a season-high .444 clip in the match. In addition, three Patriots tabbed double-digit kills: Hayden Wagner (13k), Kyle Barnes (11k) and Sam Greenslade (10k). 
 
ROAD STRETCH IN SIGHT
After Friday's home match against Coker College, the Patriots with face four road opponents over a two-week stretch. The road stretch begins in Indiana with matchups at Purdue Fort Wayne (Feb. 9) and #11 Ball State (Feb. 10).

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Coker College: 2-2, 1-1 IVA Conference 
Coker College, of Hartsville, S.C., recently fell in a mid-week contest to Queens (N.C.) on Tuesday night. The Cobras fell in four sets to the Royals to drop to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. 

Coker's Tuesday opponent is a familiar face for Mason as the Patriots' first match this season was against Queens (Jan. 4), resulting in a 3-0 sweep.
 
Joao Victor Santos and Gabriel Castro lead Coker in kills per set while setter Brandon Ravelo guides the offense with 9.33 assists per set.
 
Mason holds a 2-0 all-time record over Coker, with its most recent victory on March 4, 2017 in Fairfax, Va.
