FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's volleyball team earned its third straight win with a sweep over Charleston (W.Va.) on Friday night. The Patriots continue its best start since 2011, improving to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in EIVA play.
"Really happy with the way our guys responded to having a couple days off this week," said head coach
Jay Hosack. "We wanted to get [the players] fresh and ready to go for a good Charleston team. I thought we did a nice job of containing them, they are a much improved program. I am glad we played well and am looking forward to our next match."
Mason hit a season-high .444 in the match behind senior
Justin Coleman's 41 assists. Three Patriots collected over 10 kills;
Hayden Wagner (13), Barnes (11) and Greenslade (10), to assist in the strong Mason offensive attack.

Jack Reese and
Langston Payne paced Mason's defense while finding success on offense. Reese tabbed four kills on a .500 clip and two blocks while Payne notched seven kills for a .545 hitting percentage and two blocks.
Although the first set saw eight ties and two lead changes, Mason's offense lifted them to the set win, 25-19. The Patriots tabbed 16 kills on a .481 clip compared to the Golden Eagles' clip of .269. Wagner hit .556 in the first set with five kills and no errors on nine attempts.
The second set saw a closer game between the two teams with 12 ties and five lead changes. However, a four-point run by the Patriots, capped off by a Coleman ace, opened up Mason's lead, 18-16. Mason claimed four of the final six points to win the set, 25-22.
In the final set, an early 6-1 run helped Mason jump out to a 11-6 lead. Later in the set, the Patriots found ways to nab back-to-back points on six different occasions, helping to maintain their lead. Barnes' 11
th kill of the match secured Mason the set win, 25-19.
NOTABLE STATS
- Mason tabbed six service aces including two by Coleman.
- The Patriots had its highest hitting percentage (.481) in the first set.
- Not one Patriot had over three attacking errors.
