Mason Renews Revolutionary Rivalry with GW Saturday in EBA

FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason University men's basketball team (12-8, 6-1) returns home to host Revolutionary Rival George Washington (6-13, 2-4) on Saturday night inside EagleBank Arena.

Tip-off between the Patriots and Colonials is set for 7 p.m. Saturday's game will be televised locally on MASN2, featuring commentary from Bill Rohland (play-by-play) and Craig Esherick. In addition, Steve Kolbe will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with pre-game coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m.

PATRIOT POINTS
* The Patriots have won 25 of their past 44 A-10 games (.568), including nine of the past 11 dating back to 2017-18. Mason went 12-39 (.235) over its first three seasons in the league.

* Mason is off to its best start in league play (6-1) in its six seasons in the Atlantic 10. The Patriots have won their first four conference road games for the first time since 1989-90 (per Patrick Stevens). It's the first four-game conference road streak for Mason since 2010-11.

* Since returning from the Emerald Coast Classic, Mason has won 10 of the past 13 games, including six of the last seven.

* Last time out, Mason picked up a key A-10 road win with a 67-63 victory in boisterous UD Arena Wednesday. Mason held Dayton scoreless over the final 2:57 to secure the win. UD had been 78-19 at home since 2010-11, with the only other 2018-19 home loss coming to No. 22 Miss. St.

* Jarred Reuter led the Patriots with 14 points (6-8 FG) and chipped in four rebounds, two assists and two steals. He scored four of Mason's final seven points, including two clutch free throws to make it a four-point game with 10 seconds left.Reuter is at 11.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg and shooting 81.8 percent over the past two contests.

* With the start at Dayton, Otis Livingston II passed Will Thomas (2004-08)  for the most career starts in school history (119).

* Livingston II added 13 points and a team-high four assists at Dayton. He also made 2-of-2 free throws. He's is 18th in the nation in free throw percentage (.896) and has made 22 of his past 23 attempts (.857).

* Justin Kier is the A-10 Player of the Week for the second week in a row. He averaged 20.0 ppg, 9.0 rpg and shot 57.7 percent in wins at UMass and over Fordham. He added 12 points at Dayton. In A-10 play, Kier, a junior, leads the A-10 in scoring (18.6 ppg) and rebounding (10.1 rpg).

* Kier has scored 12+ points in 13-straight games. Mason is 10-3 during that stretch.

* A-10 All-Defensive Team candidate Javon Greene has played a major role in limiting SJU's Charlie Brown, SBU's Courtney Stockard, Davidson's Kellan Grady, URI's Jeff Dowtin, UMass' Luwane Pipkins  and UD's Jalen Crutcher to a combined 35.7 percent (30-84) overall and 19.0 percent (8-42) from 3-point range.

CONVERTING AT THE LINE
Otis Livingston II (.896) and Javon Greene (.891) are No. 1 and 2 in the A-10 in free throw percentage, respectively, while Justin Kier is fifth (.827). The Patriots are shooting 82.9 percent from the line in league play (1st in A-10) and are 43rd in the nation overall with a .748 team clip.

HISTORY vs. GEORGE WASHINGTON
Saturday's game marks the 23rd all-time meeting in the Revolutionary Rivalry. George Mason and George Washington are separated by just 20 miles. GW holds a 19-3 advantage in the series and is 4-3 in games played in Fairfax. GW has captured nine of 10 meetings in A-10 play, although Mason won the most recent matchup, 72-65, on Feb. 10 last season inside EagleBank Arena. GW won the first 2017-18 meeting in Foggy Bottom, 80-68, on Jan. 17. Justin Kier averaged 13.0 points and shot 58.8 percent (10-17) in two games last season against the Colonials, while Otis Livingston II averaged 6.0 assists in the two games. He posted 14 points and nine assists in the Feb. 10 Homecoming win.

HISTORY vs. TEAMS IN OUR NATION'S CAPITAL
Saturday's game will be Mason's 117th against a Washington, D.C. college. The Patriots are 62-54 (.534) overall and 40-35 (.533) against Div. I, D.C. schools. The Patriots' most common opponents are American (31-11), GW (3-19), Gallaudet (11-4), UDC (6-12) and Howard (6-4). Mason has played Georgetown just once, with the Hoyas earning a 75-63 victory in EagleBank Arena on Dec. 3, 1985.

A LOOK AT THE COLONIALS (6-13, 2-4 Atlantic 10; KenPom No. 276, NET No. 261)
GW was picked to finish 13th in the 2018-19 Atlantic 10 preseason poll. The Colonials lost their first five games to open the season, but won five of their next nine contests, including a 70-56 victory at Saint Joseph's to open A-10 play. The Colonials are a solid defensive team but struggle on the offensive end, where they rank 313th in efficiency (0.946 points/possession) and 322nd in effective field goal percentage (.459). Junior DJ Williams leads the team in scoring (13.1 ppg), while sophomore Terry Nolan Jr. adds 11.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per contest.

UP NEXT
Mason takes a seven-day competitive break before returning to game action next Saturday (Feb. 2) with a road contest at VCU. Tip-off between the Rams and Patriots is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. inside the Siegel Center. The game will be televised nationally on NBC Sports Network.
