Mason Flies To Ohio For Wednesday Matchup with Dayton

FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason University men's basketball team 11-8 (5-1 A-10) hits the road for a Wednesday contest at Dayton (12-6, 4-1). The Patriots and Flyers are a combined 9-2 in A-10 games in 2018-19.

Tip-off between the Patriots and Flyers is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday's game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN+ and also will be televised locally in Ohio on Spectrum News One. In addition, "Voice of the Patriots" Bill Rohland will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with free audio coverage beginning at  6:45 p.m.

PATRIOT POINTS
* The Patriots have won 24 of their past 43 A-10 games (.558), including eight of the past 10 dating back to 2017-18. Mason went 12-39 (.235) over its first three seasons in the league.

* Mason is off to its best start in league play (5-1) in its six seasons in the Atlantic 10.

* Since returning from the Emerald Coast Classic, Mason has won nine of the past 12 games, including five of the last six.

* The Patriots are 3-0 in A-10 road games, tying the team's longest A-10 road winning streak (2016-17). The Patriots have not won four league road games in a row since the 2010-11 NCAA Tournament squad rattled off eight (CAA) to close the regular season.

* Last time out, Mason won its third-straight contest with a 71-68 victory over Fordham Saturday in Fairfax. Mason trailed by nine (64-55) with five minutes to play but closed the game on a 16-4 run to claim victory.

* With the game tied 68-68, senior Otis Livingston II nailed a 3-pointer with 0.4 seconds remaining to secure the win. He finished with 17 points and a game-high six assists. He also made 7-of-7 free throw attempts and is 20-of-21 (.952) from the line over the past three games.

* With a start vs. Fordham, Livingston II will pass Will Thomas (2004-08)  for the most career starts in school history (119).

* Justin Kier is the A-10 Player of the Week for the second week in a row. He averaged 20.0 ppg, 9.0 rpg and shot 57.7 percent in wins at UMass and over Fordham. He's averaging 21.3 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 2.7 apg and shooting 60.4 percent (29-48) over the past four contests.

* In A-10 play, Kier, a junior, leads the A-10 in scoring (19.7 ppg) and rebounding (11.3 rpg).

* Otis Livingston II is 23rd in the nation in free throw percentage (.892),  and Javon Greene is 24th (.891). They are No. 1 and 2 in the A-10, respectively. The Patriots are shooting 83.2 percent from the line in league play (1st in A-10) and are 50th in the nation overall with a .745 team clip.

* Mason has shot 48.3 percent overall and 43.4 percent from 3-point range in road games this season. At home, the Patriots are at just 44.8 percent overall and 28.4  percent from beyond the arc.

* The Patriots have held nine straight opponents under 70 points. It's the longest such streak for a Mason team in 10 years. The 2008-09 squad limited 14 straight foes to under 70 points.

HISTORY vs. DAYTON
Wednesday's matchup marks the 10th all-time meeting between Mason and Dayton. The Flyers hold a 7-2 advantage in the series and are 4-0 inside UD Arena. The programs played a four year home-and-home series from 2007-2010, before the Patriots joined the A-10 in 2013-14. Dayton is 4-1 in league contests vs. Mason. The Patriot victory came last season, when Mason won 84-67 on Valentine's Day inside EagleBank Arena. Then-junior Otis Livingston II dazzled with 29 points and made a career-high 7-of-9 3-pointers in the win. Justin Kier added 14 points, six assists and five rebounds. Livingston II is averaging 19.7 points, 4.3 assists and shooting 59.1 percent from 3-point range in three career games vs. the Flyers.

A LOOK AT THE FLYERS (12-6, 4-1 Atlantic 10; KenPom No. 67, NET No. 81)
Dayton was picked to finish sixth in the 2018-19 Atlantic 10 preseason poll. The Flyers went 8-5 in non-conference play, including a win over KenPom No. 39 Butler in the Bahamas. The Flyers are 9-1 at home. Dayton ranks No. 43 nationally in offensive efficiency (1.15 points/possession), ninth in effective FG% (.565) and second in 2-point percentage (.599). Redshirt-senior Josh Cunningham leads the Flyers with 15.6 points and chips in 5.6 rebounds per game. He shoots 65.8 percent from the floor (11th nationally). Jalen Crutcher adds 13.7 points and leads the A-10 with 6.0 assists per contest. Freshman Obi Toppin adds 11.9 points and shoots 67.6 percent (5th nationally), while Jordan Davis (11.2 ppg) and Trey Landers (10.6 ppg) also average double figures for Dayton.

UP NEXT
Mason returns home Saturday for the first of two Revolutionary Rivalry contests vs. George Washington. Tip-off between the Patriots and Colonials is set for 7 p.m. The game will be televised locally on MASN2 and streamed nationally on ESPN+.
