George Mason head coach Jessy Morgan was featured in a piece in the Baltimore Sun on Friday ahead of her induction into Greater Baltimore Lacrosse Foundation Hall of Fame on Saturday.
Morgan, who begins her fifth year as head coach of the Patriots this winter, is one of just four African-American female head coaches in Division I women's lacrosse. The Baltimore native and former University of Virginia All-American defender was lauded by her peers and former coaches in the feature, written by the Sun's Edward Lee, for her efforts in the community, especially in creating a push for minorities in the sport.
"She has done an incredible amount for the African-American lacrosse community, and she's a huge advocate for them," hall of fame coordinator Bobbie Bardzik told the Baltimore Sun. "So of course we want to honor her and her hard work and dedication. And it does inspire others. I would hope that she would inspire anyone, not just African-American girls."
Virginia head coach Julie Myers, who coached Morgan at UVA from 2004-07 and later hired on her staff as an assistant for four years, told the Sun Morgan is a role model for others.
"It is always fun to see any woman, any minority just find her way, grow up and rise to the top, and I think Jessy did that her way in her timeline, and I think the sky's the limit," she said. "I think she has so many more things she's going to do in life, and it's always going to come with a sense of humor and an energy that is unmatched by other people."

Morgan will be enshrined during a ceremony for the nine-member 2019 class that begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Martin's Valley Mansion in Cockeysville, Md. Under Morgan's watch, the Patriots have won at least 10 games and reached the Atlantic 10 tournament all four years.
