FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason men's volleyball junior opposite hitter
Hayden Wagner has been named Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
The York, Pa., native continued his strong start to the 2019 season, impressing over two matches at the Uvaldo Acosta Invitational. The opposite hitter averaged 6.35 points per set and 5.57 kills per set along with 1.71 digs per set and .86 blocks per set.
In Mason's sweep over Erskine (Jan. 11), Wagner led all hitters with 16 kills on a .323 clip while also adding five digs and four blocks. The following night against No. 3 UC Irvine, he once again led all hitters with a season-high 23 kills. He also notched seven digs and two blocks in the four-set loss.
Through four matches this season, Wagner ranks fourth in the country with 5.57 points per set and sits tied for fourth in kills per set (4.50). This is the third EIVA Offensive Player of the Week honor of Wagner's career and his first of the 2019 season.
The Patriots hit the road to take on #11 Ohio State on Jan. 18, followed by their first conference match against University of Charleston (W.Va.) on Jan. 19.
