ANNAPOLIS, Md. – George Mason University women's volleyball team fell to the Naval Academy on Tuesday night in three sets, 25-15, 25-15, 25-15.
In the opening set, Navy jumped out an early 8-2 advantage. The Midshipmen followed up with a four-point scoring run to extend its lead to ten, 15-5. The Patriots attempted to chip away at Navy's lead by going on a four-point run of its own, cutting the game to seven. Ultimately, Navy's lead proved to be too large for the Patriots – winning 25-15.
In the second set, two straight kills from
ShaLi Niu kept the Patriots around early for a score of 4-3. A six-point run by the Midshipmen allowed them to open up the second set by a score of 17-8. Although Mason battled hard in the set, Navy ended on a 6-1 run – winning 25-15.
Mason jumped out to a lead of 2-1 thanks to kills by
Bailey Williams and
Erin Derick but Navy responded quickly with a four-point scoring run of its own. Several short scoring runs throughout the third set sealed the match for the Midshipmen – winning 25-15.
