– George Mason University women's volleyball team will travel to Annapolis, Md. tomorrow for a midweek matchup against the Naval Academy. The Patriots are coming off of a 2-1 weekend at the Georgetown Classic.
Mason won its first game of the season in commanding fashion against Penn, by a score of 3-1. The Patriots secured their second win of the season over Norfolk State in straight sets, 3-0. With two weeks of non-conference play left, the Patriots hope to carry the momentum as they take on the Midshipmen at 7 p.m.
Navy Midshipmen – Record: 3-3 (0-0 Patriot League)
Navy opened its 2018 season at the Penn State Invitational. The Midshipmen went 2-1 on the weekend, defeating both UMBC and Eastern Kentucky in straight sets. Host Penn State handed Navy its first loss of the season – winning 3-0. On the second weekend of competition, the Midshipmen hosted the Kristen Dickmann Invitational. The Midshipmen defeated Dartmouth, but fell to Alabama and Villanova.
Sophomore outside hitter Maddi Sgattoni leads the Midshipmen attack, averaging 3.30 points per set and 3.05 kills per set. Navy also receives help from senior setter Patricia Mattingly, who is averaging 8.40 assists per set, and senior outside hitter Kelsey Kingsland, who is averaging 2.25 kills per set. Defensively, Navy is anchored by libero Sydney Shearn. The senior leads the team in digs per set (4.65).
