Mason Takes On Revolutionary Rival George Washington on Friday

GAME OF THE WEEK: Friday's match will be the Game of the Week. All Mason students will receive free Jason's Deli with a valid Mason ID. Mason's Green Machine will also be making a special appearance at the match. 
 
FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University women's volleyball team will play revolutionary rival George Washington at 7 p.m. on Friday at the RAC for its only match of the weekend. 
 
The Patriots started Atlantic 10 play 1-1 last weekend. Mason fell to Dayton 3-1 on Sept. 21, despite a first set victory over the Flyers.
 
Mason defeated Saint Louis in five sets on Sept. 22. It marked Mason's first victory over the Billikens in program history. The Patriots look to have their best start in A-10 play since joining the league in 2013.
 
NEW AND NOTES
  • Peyton Ehmke was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for her performances against Dayton and Saint Louis. The freshman posted 2.44 kills per set and 1.88 blocks per set on the weekend. 
  • Mason had five players record career-highs against Saint Louis – Ehmke (17 kills and nine blocks), Marlanna Bozicevich (10 digs), Emily Konchan (seven blocks), Katrina Santos (11 blocks) and ShaLi Niu (12 kills and six blocks).
  • Catie Espinoza now sits second in Mason's all-time career digs list with 1,248 digs.
  • The Patriots tallied 21 team blocks against the Billikens– tied for the fourth highest total in a single match in school history.
  • Bailey Williams recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 kills and 15 digs against SLU. 
  • George Washington leads the all-time series 31-8.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
 
George Washington: 7-6 (1-1 Atlantic 10)
 
The Patriots and Colonials had almost identical starts to Atlantic 10 play. George Washington opened its conference slate with a 3-0 win over Saint Louis but fell to Dayton 3-1 on the second day of A-10 competition. 
 
George Washington's offense is led by setter Jaimeson Lee and outside hitter Skylar Iott. Lee is averaging 9.55 assists per set while Iott is averaging 3.76 kills per set.
 
On the defensive end, Callie Fauntleroy ranks fourth in blocks per set (1.10) in the Atlantic 10 while Bella Bowman sits third in digs per set in the A-10 with 4.51.
 
Last season, Mason fell to GW twice – 3-2 on Oct. 6 in Fairfax, Va. and 3-1 on Nov. 3 in Washington, D.C. Mason will look for its first victory over GW in A-10 play.
